Ireland too joins the category of most vulnerable to climate change. Average temperatures in the country have been rising enormously. Is it the beginning of the era of climate change?
Ireland surrounded by Atlantic Ocean to the west and Irish Sea to the east has a generally mild climate that wavers seasonally, but for quite some time, it has been noticed that temperatures have risen to a great extent. The figure stands at double the increase in temperature than anywhere in the world. And it’s not just the rise in mercury that is increasingly becoming a torment for Ireland, but the volume and intensity with which rainfall has been increasing has become a headache for the Irish Republic. Already instances of people suffering from agony for scarcity of water have been found in Ireland and the situation is not going to be better amidst deficient rainfall owing to global warming. As global warming starts to spread its tentacles, thanks to carbon emissions worldwide, west Atlantic-coasts will be ever more fall prey to floods and soil erosion due to heavy rains.

Even though it is located near sea, yet the rise in temperature in Ireland at such a fast pace points the needle towards warming. And Ireland is particularly prone to warming because being a blooming economy it has so far failed to curb its carbon emissions. In every way, Ireland falls short of severing on its carbon emissions and even Kyoto Protocol has not helped in this cause. It is time for Ireland to buy carbon credits from foreign companies that have fully abided by their Kyoto commitments.
Global warming has sprouted its head in every nook and corner of the world. As Ireland gets ready to become a blast furnace, it is time to ponder over not just the immediate side effects of warming but long-term impacts, else we need not be told what future lies ahead of us.
